Dreams

I have often wondered if there is any real significance to what we dream? And I have always been fascinated with the idea that while we are unconscious our minds take over and willing or not, run a little movie in our heads. The fact that we have no control over them or what our mind creates is a little frightening.
Why do we sometimes dream happy, wonderful dreams? Have you ever woke up in the middle of the night and you were having such a fantastic voyage in your mind that you were mad you woke up? Then you immediately try to go back to sleep to continue the adventure. I seem to do that a lot.
At other times I have dreams that are not joyful or frightening, they are just annoying. Often times I am unable to do the simplest tasks in my dreams, like lighting a fire or walk up stairs. There seems to be no point to the little movie my subconscious is running, just that I am inept at doing something basic and simple. Am I telling myself I need to try harder in life? It sounds like something I would say to me. I can be such a jerk sometimes.
When I was younger, for several weeks I had two reoccurring dreams every night for weeks. In the first dream I dreamt I was a wigwam and in the second dream I dreamt I was a tee-pee. I went to a counselor and he figured it out. I was two tents.
We also have bad dreams and my nightmares can really be intense. Mine are never spooky or bloody, but very sad and tragic. After my mother died at the age of forty-one, I had a dream that she just showed up one day in the driveway with groceries. When I asked her what was going on she acted like I was crazy. She was back and I didn’t care how or why, I just had a great afternoon with her, until my siblings came home from school. They freaked out and kept telling her, “You’re supposed to be dead Mom.” That made her upset and she left us again. It felt like I lost her twice. I never want to have that one again.
Scientist say most people dream in black and white. I’m not a scientist, but I don’t buy it. Maybe they dreamt in black and white back in the old days, but in the mid-sixties I think everyone switched to color. Some of the poor people probably dreamt in black and white until the seventies when they could afford to dream in color.
One piece of advice dear readers; if you have a dream that you are eating a ten pound marshmallow and when you wake up your pillow is gone, please go to the doctor right away! Trust me on this one.
